Jeez - where does it end?
Going through prelims to become a PhD candidate is difficult during a normal semester. Trying to do so while getting married in less than a month, taking three graduate classes, and teaching a class of 164 undergraduates can feel overwhelming at times.
This is one of those times! I have a grant proposal project due tomorrow evening in which I am half finished (Yay - 5 of 10 pages done!). My brain feels fried at this point. Five of the six written prelims are down with an average 4 hours spent on each and 4,500 words written for each. That's a lot of thought and information to get down on paper in 4 hours!
Last weekend was great with time spent with my parents and Abby completing some more important things on the list for preparing for the wedding. The weekend before was a lot of fun too with time spent with Abby's parents for her bridal shower. But the list just kept staring at me!
It has been a great weekend so far. Abby and I celebrated our two-year anniversary of our first date on Friday night. I made grilled jalapeno lime salmon, mashed cauliflower and red potatoes with caramelized onions and mushrooms, and grilled fresh green beans. We washed it down with some Boulevard wheat beer which had floating lime-burgs! Abby sliced a HUGE Jonathon apple and tossed it with homemade crumb topping and baked it for dessert. YUMMY all the way around!
It will be a long weekend but Sunday night will be a welcome time. Written prelims will be finished and the grant writing project will have been submitted. I've done this to myself so now I must continue forward and continue with the project. Plus the memory of Friday night is a welcome distraction when the brain gets too hay-wired.
I'll keep you posted on the process of finishing this thing called prelims and a dissertation, all while teaching and becoming a husband. It's been a wonderful ride so far and I've enjoyed everything about all of it.
Hopefully I'll get to enjoy some good beer and nachos on Sunday evening after all has been turned in!

I was wondering why, with an upcoming wedding and deadline for PhD preliminaries looming, you chose to start a blog now?
